Family Fun Boredom Busters Book Review June 11, 2008

The book boasts 365 activities. I flipped through about half of it last night and from what I’ve seen… I feel that my family will be doing at least 75% of the activities. Some of them were ruled out due to being a bit beyond my little ones (such as learning to sew and requiring reading skills). But then even those activities that I ruled out for my kids now…would be fun with my girl scout troop or even in my job as an elementary counselor!

The organization of the book is laid out very nicely. The table of contents allows for speedy retrieval of specific activities…such as backyard games, rainy-day play, 4 seasons, arts & crafts, kitchen projects, and brain boosters. The pages are visually appealing with real photos of the finished product and assembly stages of some of the more involved projects.

I love the fact that although these projects are engaging and stimulating for children, they do not require expensive supplies. Basic supplies like construction paper, markers, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes will come in pretty handy.

The book has several pages devoted to opening our eyes to every day objects, like cereal boxes and empty pop bottles, to be used in activities and crafts. Looking at empty jelly jars and toilet paper rolls as “supplies” rather than trash is an excellent way to teach kids about being environmentally friendly by reusing and repurposing our “junk”.

The diversity in this book is awesome! My daughter was so excited every time I turned the page. She couldn’t decide what she wanted to do first! From indoor rainy day games, to outdoor relay races, to yummy kitchen creations, this book is sure to bust your child’s boredom! Actually, these look pretty fun for grown ups too!
