Family Fun Boredom Busters Bit of a Book Review June 11, 2008

I have gotten the Family Fun magazine before and really enjoyed their quick and easy children’s crafts and activities.  So when I saw it on Amazon’s Market Place for about $5, I figured how could I go wrong. I just recieved it yesterday in the mail and I am soooo not disappointed! You can find my book review here.

Seriously, our summer is going to be filled with so many fun projects and activities I don’t know who is more excited…me or the kids! I am going to be taking pictures of some of the projects from the Boredom Buster book and post them on my blog…so be sure to come back and see how things turn out after my kids get their hands on some glue…I got my money on “pretty sticky” and “glitter in places it wasn’t meant to go!”

Strawberries are on the horizon June 7, 2008

I found out that a local farm has u-pick strawberries! I am so excited to take the kids berry picking! My mom used to take my brother and I every year. I absolutely loved it. Strawberries arfe my favorite fruit and my mom would tease me that they were going to start weighing people when they came in and re-weight them on the way out… man how my eyes would widen in fear of being caught eating all of those strawberries!

Which reminds me…during my pursuit to find a book that shows how a strawberries grow I found this little gem:

This book took me a bit by surpirse. It was a nice surprise though. I don’t every recall reading a book without any words to my kids before. They have had picture books, but there has always been a few words…they loved this book. I felt that the art was fantastic and really opened the door for great conversations about what they thought the story was about! Highly recommended! I found mine at the local library!!!

A few of the activities I thought we would embark on are:

-Strawberry scented playdough

-Home maid strawberry ice cream

-Color giant strawberries with strawberry scented paint (strawberry kool-aid to tempra paint)…makes for a sort scratch and sniff effect.

-Counting seeds on our strawberries (the big ones we just colored) using buttons as “seeds.”

-And of course strawberry picking!
